1 Highlight success stories through feedback
Get the team to give regular, written feedback. Share the success stories. This motivates your teams by recognising their efforts and progress. It also encourages and motivates new people to get involved in the business English courses.
2 Reward participants through incentives
Reward participants by making successful completion of business English training courses a part of their bonus package. Boosting English skills can also be aligned with career development and promotion opportunities
3 Hold business English training and coaching during work hours
This is one of the clearest signs that your team’s learning and development in English is taken seriously: when they can attend classes on work time. If the classes are blocked in their calendar, they can focus on them without feeling worried about missing out on important meetings.
4 Do a trial course with 1 or 2 groups
It’s essential that your team build a good relationship with their business English trainer and coach. If you don’t know how a 3, 6 or 12 month course will go, do a trail run with 1 or 2 groups. If they make good progress and are happy with their trainer/ coach, you can extend the courses and offer them to additional teams.
5 Encourage participants to attend international events
Practising business English in the real world is fundamental to long term sustainable progress. When business English class participants apply their knowledge at trade fairs, corporate events and conferences, their confidence grows more quickly. It’s highly motivating and is a great way for them to represent your business.
